Farmhouse Garden
This West Sussex project transformed the landscape around a charming old farmhouse. We installed a raised clay paver terrace to connect the main house with a newly converted barn guesthouse and built a pathway linking the larger more formal garden to the client’s smallholding. The driveway was restabilised and re-surfaced with gravel leading to the main parking area, guesthouse, and stables. For sustainable living, we installed a kitchen and flower garden featuring multiple raised beds, a fruit cage, and a greenhouse, as well as a parterre and native hedgerow in the front garden. The client was a keen horticulturist and chose stunning bold swathes of perennials and grasses which beautifully complemented the hardscape.
Designed by Nigel Philips Landscape and Garden Design, this project features a raised terrace using clay pavers from Vande Moortel to connect the main farmhouse with the renovated guest house. The pavers provide a warm, natural look which compliments the rural landscape and vibrant borders beautifully. Bespoke contemporary sandstone steps with bullnose detail were the perfect partner to the clay terrace and pathways, offering a subtle contemporary touch. Oak pergola arches were perfectly positioned to frame the stunning treeline views and landscape beyond, adding structure and framing. The flower and kitchen gardens have been created using Breedon wayfarer self-binding gravel pathways, with oak-raised beds and finial accents, creating ample space for growing, composting, and nurturing seedlings all framed within a palisade fence border. Completing the design, the front garden offers a smart, understated entrance to this stunning garden.
