Courtyard Garden
This inner courtyard garden was a key feature of a large country house. It was divided into two distinct areas, framed by lush evergreen shrubs, perennials, and a striking shade-loving multi-stemmed Acer. Climbers added seasonal and scent interest, while limestone paving and cobble details blended beautifully with the existing courtyard walls. Designed for a therapist, the garden served as both a serene workspace and a cool retreat from the other more sun drenched areas of her garden. Two sculptures were thoughtfully positioned to enhance the design, and a central copper water bowl provided the soothing sound of bubbling water, elevating the space’s feel of calm and beauty.
We are really delighted with the transformation of our courtyard. Simon and his team worked like Trojans in the wettest February in memory and were easy going, hardworking and professional. The work itself didn’t impact the household as they quietly got on with the work. We now have an absolutely beautiful haven of tranquillity which will provide us with many years of pleasure. Thank you.
Designed by Bo Cook Landscape and Garden Design, this courtyard garden required thoughtful planning to fulfil several key functions. It needed to serve as a tranquil, inward-facing space for therapy and a shaded retreat for quiet contemplation, while also serving as a viewing garden from the multiple windows inside the beautiful house in which it sat. Additionally, with four doorways leading into the courtyard, it also operated at times as an access route. Bo’s design skilfully balanced the client’s needs while creating a beautiful and serene space. The client was thrilled with the final result, and it was a pleasure to build such a stunning and functional courtyard space.
