Entertaining Garden

This large rural garden in East Sussex underwent a significant transformation, blending classic design with contemporary details. Elegant limestone terraces are bordered by deep perennial beds and feature trees. Recycled clay pavers form pathways and panels that perfectly complement both the stone paving and the traditional flint walls. A raised sun terrace opens onto a formal lawn, bordered on one side by a retaining flint wall. Steps lead to the stables and the breathtaking South Downs, which rise above a wildflower meadow stretching towards the landscape beyond. The result is a harmonious blend of natural beauty and thoughtful design.

A beautifully conceived and executed scheme, I honestly thought some elements were original, such was the skill in both selection of the materials and subsequent installation, an absolute gem. Richard Gardiner, Technical Officer (Quality), BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries).

Designed by Bo Cook Landscape and Garden Design, this garden was thoughtfully created to provide a relaxing retreat for our clients after a long workday, and a welcoming space for family and friends on evenings and weekends. Bo describes the layout of the terraces as a “journey through entertaining.” The outdoor kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and hosting, allowing one to remain at the heart of any gathering. Alongside the stunning main perennial feature bed, the bar is perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening drink. With a BBQ and pizza oven, the clients can prepare meals while catching up with friends, family and life. The dining terrace is positioned to take in the long view of the garden with easy access to the main house, ideal for leisurely lunches or suppers. Elegant and generous garden furniture fills the seating terrace, inviting relaxation with a good book, or evening chats by the firebowl under the stars. It was a  joy to build this beautiful, serene space.
