Mediterranean Courtyard Garden

This charming courtyard garden retreat features a sunken central area with built-in facing benches and a water feature created using a recycled Italian-style terracotta pot. Bathed in sunlight, the space was perfect for the Mediterranean-inspired planting, attracting an array of insects and pollinators with its colour, textures, and lovely scent. Offering multiple seating areas, this garden provides a serene and inviting sanctuary for relaxation throughout the day. The clients were thrilled with the process, and the finished courtyard exceeded their expectations, enhancing the beauty and tranquillity of their already stunning home.

I have been employing contractors for almost 50 years to carry out projects in my house and garden, and can say that Simon Scott Landscaping would be in the front rank of all of those companies. Simon’s attention to detail in the planning and design process was outstanding, and that underpinned the smooth way in which the project was carried out. Simon and Richard worked hard in every kind of weather. When they came up against a problem, they never complained but always found a way to overcome it. They kept us fully informed all the time about what decisions would be needed and when, and they were a pleasure to host in our garden. The result is a new garden that we are delighted with. We keep on asking ourselves now why we took so long to decide to do this project, given the lovely transformation that he has created.  David, Client, East Sussex

Our clients lived in a stunning converted barn overlooking a serene lake, surrounded by mature trees, perennial planting, and winter-interest feature plants, with breathtaking views of the South Downs. While these areas were beautifully landscaped long before our involvement, the central swimming pool courtyard adjacent to the house was hardly ever used. Garden Designer Ben Macdonald of Ben Macdonald Gardens was commissioned by the client to redesign the space. Incorporating sensitive materials of reclaimed Yorkstone, matching bricks, and oak beams for the pergola, the courtyard seamlessly blended with the property’s aesthetic. Now, with multiple seating areas, a soothing stream, and a water feature, the courtyard has become a cherished, year-round retreat.
